15 January 2017

Town takes lead twice, but pegged back

- Highlights on HTTV this week

A late Barnsley equaliser denied Huddersfield Town’s Under-23 side a win in the latest Professional Development League clash of the season at PPG Canalside on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Professional Development Coach Frankie Bunn’s side twice took the lead at Town’s training complex, but were pegged back on both occasions – with the final equaliser coming from a familiar name.

Town took the lead just 15 minutes into the game, with striker Rekeil Pyke netting his first goal since returning from a loan spell at Wrexham – turning home an excellent cross from the left from attacking midfielder Jack Boyle.

Barnsley equalised just after the half hour through Jacob Brown to send the sides in level at the interval, but the young Terriers restored the advantage in the 64th minute through an excellent set piece; midfielder Lewis O’Brien heading home Boyle’s delivery.

Unfortunately, the Development Squad couldn’t hang on, with former Town Academy man Jake Charles netting a free kick in the final minute to take a point.

Town’s team (4-2-3-1):
Luke Coddington; Jacob Hanson (c), Dylan Cogill, Danny Kane, Jordan Williams; Lewis O’Brien, Jamie Spencer (Rarmani Edmonds-Green, 90’); Luca Colville (Olly Dyson, 64’), Jack Boyle, Denilson Carvalho (Dom Tear, 88’); Rekeil Pyke

Unused subs:
Ryan Schofield, Sam Warde
