Two goals in two minutes from Barnsley striker Wilberforce Ocran condemned Huddersfield Town’s Under-18s to a 2-0 defeat in its Professional Development League match at the Oakwell Academy.
Barnsley’s youngsters got off to a better start and could’ve been ahead within the first 10 minutes. Ocran, who caused Town’s young defence problems throughout the match, met a cross into the area but couldn’t direct his effort on target.
Leigh Bromby’s side began to create more chances, George Danaher drew a good save out of the home side’s ‘keeper before Cedwyn Scott had a shot blocked by a defender after working some space in the area.
In the 38th minute Barnsley had a penalty. Sam Tingle stepped up for the home side but Ryan Schofield did excellently to deny him from the spot.
The start to second half was very similar to the first with Barnsley creating an early chance. Kane Swinburn’s free-kick was saved by Schofield before Mo Saeed hit a blistering effort just wide from 25 yards out.
On the hour mark Cedwyn Scott has two opportunities. A superb challenge from Lund denied Scott, who had the goal at his mercy before Barnsley ‘keeper Murphy stopped the youngsters low drive at the near post.
However, in the 67th minute the home side took the lead. Ocran tapped in a cross after a great run by Bertie. A minute later Ocran had his and Barnsley’s second, firing in a superb effort from range.
Scott had a final chance for Town with just minutes remaining but Murphy got down well to deny him once again.
