Young striker joins promotion-chasing League 2 club- Rekeil Pyke joins Colchester United on loan
- Development Squad striker moves until 7 May 2017
- Comments from Academy Manager Steve Weaver
Huddersfield Town’s Development Squad striker Rekeil Pyke has today joined Colchester United on loan until 7 May 2017 inclusive.
The 19 year-old’s loan spell could be extended if Colchester, currently sitting ninth in the Sky Bet League 2 table, reach the end of season Play-Offs.
He will be available to Colchester First Team Coach John McGreal for the team’s league fixture at Blackpool on Saturday 4 February.
This is a second loan spell for the powerful forward, who returned from a spell at Vanarama National League side Wrexham on 28 December.
Huddersfield Town’s Academy Manager Steve Weaver commented:
“This is a different type of loan move for Rekeil and will present him with new challenges that will be good for his development as a senior player.
“Rekeil is used to being a regular in the Under-23 side, but now he faces the challenge of forcing his way into a side that is doing very well in Sky Bet League 2 and is in good form.
“I’m delighted with how this loan move has come about. Colchester asked to look at Rekeil and he has earned this move by impressing in training with them last week, so that’s a good start.
“We’ll keep a very close eye on Rekeil during his time at the Club and hope to see him make an impression in Essex.”
Rekeil joined the Club at Under-12 level from local side Rothwell Juniors and progressed through the Academy age groups at a fast pace.
For the last two seasons, he has been a regular in Senior Professional Development Coach Frankie Bunn’s Under-23 side. This season he has netted seven times in 18 starts across the Professional Development League and Premier League Cup.
Rekeil also played for David Wagner’s First Team in the pre-season friendlies against Liverpool FC, FC Ingolstadt 04 and Oldham Athletic.
