LOAN: CHELSEA’S IZZY BROWN JOINS HTAFC

6 January 2017

Attacking midfielder joins for the rest of 2016/17

- Izzy Brown joins Huddersfield Town on loan
- England U20 international arrives from Chelsea
- Comments from Head Coach David Wagner

Huddersfield Town has today completed the signing of England Under-20 international Izzy Brown from Chelsea on a Standard Loan for the rest of the 2016/17 season.

19 year-old Isaiah, who can play on either wing or in central attacking areas, spent the first half of the current campaign on loan at fellow Sky Bet Championship side Rotherham United, where he scored three goals in 17 starts and three substitute appearances.

He joins the Terriers on loan until 30 June 2017 and will wear the number 37 shirt during his stay with the Terriers.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“Just like his teammate Kasey Palmer, Izzy is another big, big English talent and it is great that Chelsea was so keen to send him to us. Thanks to them for all their help in making this transfer happen so quickly.

“He is a very exciting attacking player who can make things happen for us in the attacking areas and we are very excited to have join our squad for the rest of the season.

“We have had a few injury problems in the wide positions, with Sean Scannell needing an operation and Joe Lolley only just returning from injury. Given this, bringing Izzy to the Club is an important January move for us.”

Born in Peterborough, Isaiah spent time in the Leicester City Academy as a youngster, but it was at West Bromwich Albion where he made his name as one of the country’s most exciting youngsters.

After helping England Under-16s win the 2012 Victory Shield and being named his Club’s Academy Player of the Year, Izzy made his Premier League debut for the Baggies; playing the final four minutes of a game against Wigan Athletic in May 2013. That made him the second youngest Premier League player of all time at just 16 years and 117 days old.

He subsequently signed for Chelsea for a fee set by tribunal in July 2013 and was soon part of the England Under-17 side that won the UEFA European U17 Championship.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho named him on the Blues’ bench on several occasions as he excelled at youth level. In April 2015, he captained Chelsea Under-19s in the final of the 2014/15 UEFA Youth League against Shakhtar Donetsk in Switzerland and put in a man of the match performance, scoring twice to help Chelsea take the title. That added to two FA Youth Cups and one Under-21 Premier League title.

On 18 May 2015, Brown made his Chelsea debut, coming off the bench for Loïc Rémy for the final eleven minutes for a game at his former club West Bromwich Albion.

Izzy joined Dutch side Vitesse on loan for the start of the next season, going on to play 24 games in the Eredivisie and Europa League, ahead of his move to Rotherham United this term.
