LOAN WATCH: FEBRUARY 2017 UPDATE ON SEVEN PLAYERS

8 February 2017

Dempsey integral to Fleetwood’s promotion bid

- An update on Town's seven players out on loan
- Kyle Dempsey & Jordy Hiwula battling for promotion
- Rekeil Pyke awaiting Colchester debut

Kyle Dempsey and Jordy Hiwula are playing important roles as their respective loan clubs battle for promotion out of Sky Bet League 1 as the 2016/17 season has progressed into February.

htafc.com has an update on all seven Town players who are currently out on loan at other clubs across England and Europe; check out the details below.

Jason Davidson, FC Groningen

Australian international Jason has made nine starts for Dutch Eredivisie side FC Groningen, but his last came back on 29 October. Jason has been an unused substitute in nine of Groningen’s last 10 fixtures.

He did notch one assist back in August and was sent off in mid-October against Heerenveen, but that red card was subsequently overturned upon appeal.

Davidson will hope to feature again when Groningen, sitting ninth in the 18-team division, plays away at Feyenoord on Saturday.

Kyle Dempsey, Fleetwood Town

Kyle has been a virtual ever-present for the Cod Army this season, making 27 starts and one substitute appearance. In that time he has notched four assists for the Club.

Uwe Rosler’s side is currently on a 13-match unbeaten streak in the Sky Bet League 1, which has seen the side rise to fourth in the table; seven points off Scunthorpe in the second automatic promotion spot.

Fleetwood’s next game is also on Saturday, when Rochdale visits Highbury.

Jordy Hiwula, Bradford City

Striker Jordy has made 26 starts and nine substitute appearances for the Bantams this season, netting 10 goals in all competitions. That includes a recent run of five goals in his last 10 appearances; the most recent of which coming in a 2-1 Checkatrade Trophy defeat at Oxford United.

Jordy recently told the Telegraph and Argus:

“I feel that since the turn of the year I’ve taken more of the opportunities that I would have missed at the start of the season.

“I know I could have got more but you can’t be scared of missing chances. That’s going to happen as a striker.

“You just need to keep getting in those areas in between the two centre backs and you’ll build the confidence to take more of them.

“Do that and hopefully more goals will come along. I feel I’m playing well enough to keep pushing on.”

Bradford sits fifth in the Sky Bet League 1 ladder - a point behind Dempsey’s Fleetwood – ahead of a game away at Bristol Rovers this weekend.

Joe Murphy, Bury

The experienced ‘keeper hasn’t featured for loan club Bury yet as he completes the final stages of his rehabilitation following a hand injury.

Bury sits 22nd in the Sky Bet League 1 ladder, two points away from safety. The team in that final spot above the relegation zone is Swindon Town; the visitors to Gigg Lane this weekend!

Rekeil Pyke, Colchester United

19 year-old striker Rekeil is still awaiting his debut for Sky Bet League 2 side Colchester United after being an unused sub in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Blackpool.

He did play for Colchester’s Under-23 side in a draw with Coventry City on Monday, whilst Colchester boss John McGreal said of Rekeil:

“He’s still young, but he looks like a man. He’s done well in training, and we look forward to him making an impact with us.”

He could make his debut this weekend in a game at home to Barnet, with Colchester currently just four points outside the League 2 Play-Off zone in ninth.

Flo Bojaj, Newport County

Development Squad striker Flo has made one substitute appearance for the Sky Bet League 2 side to date in the 1-1 home draw with Colchester United on 14 January.

He has subsequently been an unused sub on two occasions, missing another couple of fixtures with a knock.

The Exiles are bottom of the EFL currently, but only three points away from safety. They host high-flying Doncaster Rovers at Rodney Parade on Friday night.

Fraser Horsfall, Stalybridge Celtic

Young centre back Fraser extended his loan at the Vanarama National League North side on Wednesday morning; click HERE for full details.
