Swiss international right back becomes a Terrier

- Florent Hadergjonaj joins Huddersfield Town
- Right back signed FC Ingolstadt 04
- Comments from Head Coach David Wagner

Huddersfield Town has completed the signing of Swiss international right back Florent Hadergjonaj from 2. Bundesliga side FC Ingolstadt 04 on a season-long loan.

The 23 year-old, who will wear the number 33 shirt, joins the Terriers for the rest of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign, with Town having the option to buy the player at the conclusion of the season.

Born in Switzerland of Kosovan-Albanian descent, Florent has played top flight football in the Swiss Super League and the Bundesliga, as well as several games in the Europa League and in Champions League qualifiers.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“It was important in this window that we found a real competitor for the right back position and in Florent, we have exactly the right player.

“Florent is one of the most exciting young right backs in Germany and is a footballer who I believe will fit our system and style of play very well. He is a real Terrier in defence and likes to attack whenever possible, which is perfect for how we want to play.

“I have met with him and he is a good character; he is eager to show he can play in the Premier League despite a lot of interest from some top clubs in Germany. I’m looking forward to working with him on the training pitch.”

Florent started his career in the youth system at Swiss Super League side Young Boys of Bern, which is the Club where he turned professional.

He made his senior debut in September 2013 and quickly established himself as a First Team regular, winning the Club’s ‘Player of the Year’ accolade in 2015.

After 88 senior appearances for the Club – several of which came in European competition – Florent joined Bundesliga outfit FC Ingolstadt 04, which is also the former club of Town striker Elias Kachunga, for a reported £2 million on a four-year contract.

He started 25 top flight games last season, scoring once and grabbing two assists; form which earned him a first senior cap for his country in an international friendly against Belarus in June 2017.
