23 September 2016

Home fixtures to be played at Curzon Ashton FC

- HTAFC U23 Premier League Cup games confirmed
- Town home games to be played at Curzon Ashton FC
- Comment from Head of Football Operations Stuart Webber

Dates and venues for Huddersfield Town’s six Under-23 Premier League Cup group stage games have today been confirmed.

The young Terriers, who are led by Senior Professional Development Coach Frankie Bunn, were drawn in Group G alongside Liverpool FC, West Bromwich Albion and Ipswich Town in the new-look competition.

The top two teams from that group, once the sides have played each other home and away, will progress to the knockout round of 16.

Group stage games must take place at a stadium as opposed to a training ground, so the Terriers’ home fixtures will take place at the Tameside Stadium; home of Curzon Ashton FC.

Town’s group games are as follows:

Friday 7 October 2016, 2pm kick-off

Huddersfield Town’s Head of Football Operations Stuart Webber explained:

“On behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to thank the staff at Curzon Ashton FC for allowing us to play our Under-23 Premier League Cup group games at their ground.

“We are trying to support the hard work of the John Smith’s Stadium ground staff in keeping the pitch in as good a condition as possible by taking these three games away from our ground. With the addition of the England Under-20 international and the Rugby Four Nations fixture, the demand on the pitch has already increased.

“This is an important competition for the Club’s Development Squad, as it will come up against a high calibre of opposition. The Academy staff has worked hard to ensure an alternative venue was sourced that adhered to Premier League criteria and we’re all delighted this has been achieved.”

Frankie Bunn’s side is in action at PPG Canalside on Sunday in the Professional Development League when QPR visits for a 2pm kick-off.

Town fans can watch the game for a £1 admission fee, which includes a team-sheet.

Why not pop in to PPG Canalside for a drink or food before the match? The kitchen is open from 1pm before the game serving a selection of hot and cold sandwiches, jacket potatoes, chips and more! Follow @htafccanalside for more information.
