Huddersfield Town is holding a night of celebration for our local Olympians and Paralympians at Town’s Sky Bet Championship match against Rotherham United on Tuesday 27 September.

The Club has joined forced with Kirklees Council to welcome home the Olympians at the John Smith’s Stadium and to celebrate their achievements.

A host of local Olympic heroes will attend the match including Paralympic swimmer Jonny Booth who finished fifth in the men’s 400m freestyle final and Huddersfield-born diver Lois Toulson who finished fifth with her partner Tonia Couch in the women’s synchronised 10m platform final.

Mayor, Cllr Jim Dodds and the Olympians will be welcomed onto the pitch at half-time by match day announcer Paul Ramsden and introduced to the Huddersfield Town supporters.

‘Citius, Altius, Fortius’, the Latin for ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger’ has been included in all pre-match promotions to emphasis the achievements of the athletes during Rio 2016 and provides a link between their achievements and the Club’s start to the season.

This will be the second time this season Olympians will have graced the John Smith’s Stadium, after Olympic gold medallist, Ed Clancy attended Huddersfield Town’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Huddersfield Town's Commercial Director, Sean Jarvis said:

“We are delighted to welcome the Olympians and Paralympians to the John Smith’s Stadium for our game against Rotherham United.

“They did exceptionally well at Rio in the summer and we would like to celebrate their achievements with them.

“You could see the excitement of the fans when they saw Ed Clancy attending the Wolves match and we hope the fans will enjoy seeing some more of their local hero’s during the Rotherham match.”

Mayor, Cllr Jim Dodds commented:

“Team GB and ‘Team Kirklees’ have had a truly amazing Olympic Games.  It is a great honour to welcome back our sporting heroes and recognise their achievements in Rio.

“I think I speak for the whole district when I say how immensely proud we are of our Olympians and Paralympians, and I am delighted we are working with Huddersfield Town to provide a hero’s welcome for them.

“We have a long history of sporting success in Kirklees, and I would like to personally thank all our athletes.

“Their success, hard work and determination is an inspiration to us all and shows what can be achieved with a strong will and commitment.”
