MOOY EARNS 18TH AUSTRALIA CAP

Aaron Mooy helps Socceroos beat UAE

- Aaron Mooy earns 18th Australia cap
- Socceroos 1-0 win over UAE in World Cup qualifier
- Mooy will now return to Huddersfield

Aaron Mooy earned his 18th cap for Australia this afternoon after he played a full 90 minutes in the Socceroos 1-0 win over UAE.

Huddersfield Town’s midfielder played in both of Australia’s World Cup qualifiers and will now return to the Yorkshire Club ahead of this weekend’s match against Leeds United.

Similarly to the Iraq match, Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou started Mooy in the middle of midfield.

Just before half-time Mooy tried a long range shot which was deflected over the bar by the UAE defender.

On the hour mark Town’s midfield general tried another speculative effort this time rattling the bar with a 15 yard volley.

The result meant Australia have won both of their opening Group B matches and will hope to progress to the next stage of qualifying, with the ultimate aim to reach the finals of the 2018 World Cup tournament in Russia.
