MOOY & STANKOVIĆ EARN FURTHER CAPS

11 October 2016

Terriers' international trio will now return to Huddersfield

- Aaron Mooy earns 20th cap for Australia
- Jon Gorenc Stanković makes 13th Slovenia U21 appearance
- Danny Ward doesn't feature for Wales

Huddersfield Town players Aaron Mooy and Jon Gorenc Stanković earned further caps for their countries on Tuesday.

Having played in a 2-2 draw at Saudi Arabia last week, on-loan Manchester City midfielder Mooy (pictured above) played over 80 minutes of a FIFA World Cup qualifying draw against Japan on Tuesday morning.

The game, which finished 1-1, was played in Melbourne, where Aaron played his football for the last two seasons in the Australian A-League.

That was Aaron’s 20th cap for his country

Later in the day, young centre back Jon earned a 13th cap for Slovenia’s Under-21 side in an eventual 3-1 defeat at Serbia.

As it happens, the game only had pride at stake for the Slovenians; their chances of qualifying for the Under-21 EURO 2017 Championships were scuppered by a defeat in Lithuania on Friday. Stanković also played the full 90 minutes in that game too.

Goalkeeper Danny Ward was also on international duty with Wales during the last week, but he failed to add to his existing three caps.

All three players will now return to Huddersfield and be available for selection to Head Coach David Wagner for Sunday’s Sky Bet Championship game at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
