FIRST PRO CONTRACT FOR JORDAN WILLIAMS

24 October 2016

Defender puts pen to paper on his 17th birthday

- Jordan Williams signs his first professional contract
- Huddersfield Town Academy defender agrees deal until 2019
- Comments from Academy Manager Steve Weaver

Huddersfield Town Academy scholar Jordan Williams has today signed his first professional contract at the Club.

Jordan, who hails from Meltham, joined Town’s Academy at nine years old and signs the deal upon turning 17 today.

The contact runs until 30 June 2019, at which point the Club has the option to extend for a further season.

Still a first year scholar, Jordan is a regular feature in Senior Professional Development Coach Frankie Bunn’s Town Under-23 team this season, making three starts so far this term.

He also played a large part in the Under-21 side that won the Professional Development League title at the conclusion of the 2015/16 campaign.

During pre-season, Jordan went to Austria with David Wagner’s First Team squad and featured as a substitute in the pre-season friendly draw against Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

More recently, the right back – who can also play centre half if required – has earned his first two caps for England’s Under-18 side during an international tournament in the North West.

Huddersfield Town’s Academy Manager Steve Weaver commented:

“If you show potential and development in your game, you will get the opportunity to progress at Huddersfield Town. Jordan has shown both, so he fully deserves this first professional contract; congratulations to him and his family.

“Equally, Jordan is a sensible lad and he knows he must keep his feet on the floor and maintain his hard work day in and day out with Frankie Bunn at PPG Canalside.

“He’s had some great exposure to our First Team already, traveling with David Wagner’s squad to Austria during pre-season; that showed him the level that he must aspire to. We’ll keep working hard with him to give him every chance of doing just that.”
