Andrew Hughes has today joined Huddersfield Town as the Club’s new First Team Coach ahead of the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship season.

The 38 year-old joins Head Coach David Wagner’s Technical Staff from FA Cup finalists Crystal Palace, where he worked with the First Team under Alan Pardew.

Manchester-born Hughes was the standout candidate from an extensive recruitment process led by Head of Football Operations Stuart Webber and Head Coach David Wagner.

Ahead of joining the Premier League Eagles in January 2016, Hughes had worked as First Team Development Coach at Rotherham United and as Professional Development Coach at Bolton Wanderers.

A central midfielder or full back during a long playing career, Andrew’s coaching experience began at his final club, Charlton Athletic, where he worked with the squad whilst sidelined with an Achilles injury.

Having come through the youth system and turning professional at Oldham Athletic, Hughes played over 600 professional games for the likes of Notts County, Reading and Leeds United; gaining promotion from League 1 on three separate occasions alongside a Division Three championship.

Andrew takes over the role vacated by Mike Marsh at the end of the season, who departed to work in England’s national setup.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner today welcomed Andrew to the Club:

“I’m very happy that we have brought Andrew to Huddersfield, as it became clear very early on that he was the man we wanted to work with.

“I said from the start that it was important to add another coach with good experience and knowledge of English football and Andrew certainly has that from both playing and coaching.

“However, Andrew is also very open to the new ideas that we have brought to Huddersfield and is excited by how we are trying to take the next steps at the Club.

“From our discussions, I know he will add to our idea too. He has great knowledge about the game and has a desire to make players better out on the training pitch every day. This is exactly what we want.”
