LOAN: JOE WILKINSON JOINS BRADFORD PARK AVENUE

24 March 2016

Comments from SPD Coach Frankie Bunn

- 20 year-old defender departs Huddersfield Town
- Senior Professional Development Coach Frankie Bunn comments

Huddersfield Town’s Development Squad defender Joe Wilkinson has today joined Bradford Park Avenue on a Youth Loan until 30 April inclusive.

The 20 year-old central defender, who can also play right back, joined Town’s Academy from local junior side Dewsbury Rangers in March 2007, graduating into the professional ranks during the summer of 2014.

Bradford Park Avenue currently sits 15th in the Vanarama National League North; two tiers below the Football League.

The Club has recently appointed former Town defender Darren Edmondson as its new Manager, whilst former Town player and coach Terry Dolan is a Director. Town favourite Danny Schofield is also on the books as a player.

This will be Joe’s second loan spell away from Huddersfield Town; he spent a month on loan at Evo-Stik League Northern Premier side Hyde United in October 2015, making two appearances.

He has made one senior appearance for Town, starting the final home game of the 2014/15 season against Blackburn Rovers.

This season, Joe has scored two goals in 15 starts for Frankie Bunn’s Under-21 side.

Town’s Senior Professional Development Coach Frankie Bunn explained:

“Like Ben Holmes and Ed Wilczynski, Joe knows that his contract at the Club will not be renewed at the end of the season and it is good that he’s got the opportunity to go and showcase his talent to try and secure another club.

“Joe has been a big part of the success the Development Squad has enjoyed over the past two seasons, often captaining the side, and I’d like to thank him for everything he has contributed.

“However, this move is now the correct one for Joe and the Club, with other defenders needing the opportunity to play regular football at Under-21 level.”
