Teenage Dane signs until 2020- Philip Billing signs contract extension
- Midfielder commits until the summer of 2020
- Comments from Head Coach David Wagner
Philip Billing has today signed a contract extension that will keep him at Huddersfield Town until the summer of 2020.
The 19 year-old midfielder was originally contracted to the Club until the end of the 2016/17 season, with Town having the option to extend for a further year at that point.
Philip joined the Huddersfield Town Academy from Danish Superliga side Esbjerg in the second half of the 2012/13 campaign following a successful 10 day trial period and subsequently signed his first professional contract in October 2013.
A Danish Under-19 international, Phil made his professional debut for the Terriers as a 76th minute substitute in a Sky Bet Championship game against Leicester City at the John Smith’s Stadium on 26 April 2014.
He’s made a further six starts and three substitute appearances this season, scoring a stunning first professional goal from range in the 2-0 Sky Bet Championship win at Nottingham Forest on 13 February 2016.
Huddersfield Town’s Head Coach David Wagner commented:
“I am very happy that Phil has signed a new contract with Huddersfield.
“As I have said many times before, keeping our good players here is just as important as looking for new talent to bring in and this adds to new contracts for Sean Scannell, Joe Lolley, Harry Bunn and Joe Murphy.
"Philip is a talent and he is a good character as well. We are proud he is our player. He is progressing very well, which is no surprise as he is football intelligent.
“He has taken his opportunity in the team recently, showing he can bring his performance to the pitch.
“However, we have a lot more work to do with him. We still have a lot of work to do to make him the player I expect him to be.”
