WHAT IS THE SHANKLY TROPHY?

9 June 2016

Trophy in homage to Bill Shankly

Huddersfield Town will face Liverpool in a pre-season friendly at the John Smith’s Stadium in the Shankly Trophy, named in honour of legendary Manager Bill Shankly.

Shankly was in charge of both sides and is well remembered for leading Liverpool to three First Division titles, two FA Cups and a UEFA Cup win.

The Former Town manager took charge of the Yorkshire Club between 1956 and 1959 before leaving for Liverpool. During his time at the Terriers he brought through legendary striker Denis Law who was then aged just 16 and won 49 out of 129 games in charge.

He then left Huddersfield to join Liverpool, a side he managed for 15 years, becoming a Club legend.

This comes shortly after the Pedal 4 Pounds 7’s Shankly Tour where they cycled 215 miles to pay homage to his career.

The game will also pit Town Head Coach David Wagner against his former Borussia Dortmund colleague and long-term friend Jurgen Klopp, who is in charge of the Premier League Club.

If the game, at 7:45pm on Wednesday 20 July, is level after 90 minutes, penalties will decide who takes home the Shankly Trophy!

Admission prices for the game are confirmed as:

Adults: £15
Over-60s: £10
Under-18s: £5

The Revell Ward Stand (both tiers) and the Fantastic Media Stand Upper Tier will be open to home fans for this fixture, with the Britannia Rescue Stand and Fantastic Media Stand Lower Tier both closed.

You can purchase tickets online or through the Ticket Office.
