Terriers to host Brentford on the opening day
- Town to host Brentford in the first game on 6 August 2016- Two away games to Newcastle and Villa follow
- Terriers at home on Boxing Day and New Year's Eve
Huddersfield Town will begin the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship campaign where last season finished – with a game at home to Brentford!
The Bees will visit the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday 6 August in a repeat of the final fixture of the 2015/16 Championship campaign.
It isn’t the first time the two sides have met on the opening day; as recently as the ill-fated 2002/03 campaign, Brentford visited the John Smith’s Stadium for the first game of the campaign. On that day Mick Wadsworth’s Terriers were beaten 2-0 in the old Division Two.
Town also travelled to London to face the Bees on the opening day of the 1938/39 Division One campaign, losing 2-1 at Griffin Park.
That game is followed up by consecutive away trips to two of the newly relegated Premier League sides; Newcastle United on Saturday 13 August and Aston Villa on the evening of Tuesday 16 August.
The latter will be Town’s first competitive trip to Villa Park since December 1987, when a Duncan Shearer goal gave Malcolm Macdonald’s side a 1-1 draw.
The first Yorkshire derby of the season follows on home soil on Saturday 20 August when newly promoted Barnsley visits.
