David Wagner’s First Team will play its first pre-season friendly of 2016/17 at Guiseley AFC on Wednesday evening; 7.45pm kick-off at Nethermoor.

Town’s Head Coach has indicated that he will take his full senior squad to the game and give the players 45 minutes each to start off the on-the-pitch preparations for the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

They will receive a good test against the Vanarama National League side, which has become a regular opponent in Town’s pre-season schedule since 2012.

The opposition

Guiseley, managed by former Bradford City centre back Mark Bower, maintained its Vanarama National League status on the final day of the 2015/16 campaign.

An amazing 4-3 home win over Torquay United secured three points that condemned FC Halifax Town to relegation instead.

2015/16 was Guiseley’s first season at that level following promotion.

The Lions have already played one pre-season friendly, winning 3-0 at non-league Parkgate on Saturday. Striker Adam Boyes (2) and midfielder Will Hatfield netted the goals.

Guiseley players to watch

Guiseley’s team includes several players who will be well known to Town fans.

Centre back Adam Lockwood is now 34, having played for Doncaster Rovers and Yeovil Town in a long league career, whilst former Norwich City and Stockport County attacker Oli Johnson is still at the Club.

24 year-old former Accrington Stanley midfielder Will Hatfield is part of the squad, as is Huddersfield-born former Chesterfield and FC Halifax Town winger Adam Smith is also at the Club.

Target man Adam Boyes is another to look out for; he’s scored against Town in pre-season before and got two goals in the team’s first friendly at the weekend.

Guiseley signings

Bower recently made three additions to his squad for the upcoming 2016/17 campaign.

North Ferriby United’s Player of the Year Ashley Palmer joined the Club, as did Wrexham utility man Javan Vidal.

Bower also signed experienced right back Danny East from Grimsby Town.
