David Wagner’s First Team plays its final friendly of the 2016/17 pre-season campaign when it takes on Bundesliga side FC Ingolstadt in Austria on Friday evening.

Town’s second game in Austria will take place on Friday 29 July will kick-off at 6.30pm local time (5.30pm in the UK) at Silberstadt Arena Schwaz, Paulinumweg 5, 6130 Schwaz.

Coached by Markus Kauczinski, the Bavarian side finished 11th in the Bundesliga last season, continuing a superb upwards trend, and will provide David Wagner’s men with a stern examination before the start of the Sky Bet Championship campaign at home to Brentford on 6 August.

THE OPPOSITION

Fc Ingolstadt 04 was only formed in 2004 when two sides – ESV Ingolstadt and MTV Ingolstadt – merged. At that point the Club played in the German fourth tier, but since then it has rapidly climbed the ladder to become a top flight side by winning the 2. Liga in 2015.

Last season the team’s great finishing position was based upon a good home record and a watertight defence; the fourth best in the German top flight.

Expect a 4-3-3 formation with offensive pressing and quick counter-attacks in Schwaz on Friday evening.

Pre-season results have been a mixed bag for Ingolstadt so far under new Head Coach Kauczinski, with a 2-2 draw against Michael Hefele’s old club Dynamo Dresden followed by a 2-1 defeat to Stuttgart Kickers. In both games, Ingolstadt have fallen two goals behind.

Ingolstadt is the Club that striker Elias Kachunga has joined the Terriers from; the striker is allowed to play against his parent club on Friday evening.

FC INGOLSTADT: PLAYERS TO WATCH

Friday evening’s opposition boasts a number of full internationals to keep an eye out for.

Aaron Mooy and Jason Davidson will know one well, as their Australian international teammate Matthew Leckie plays in the forward ranks.

There are also two Austria internationals who could feature in their homeland; striker Lucas Hinterseer, who is native to the region, and defender Markus Suttner.

Among Ingolstadt’s squad are Norwegian international goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, USA international holding midfielder Alfredo Morales, Paraguay striker Dario Lezcano, Cameroon international midfielder Marvin Matip and Israel international midfielder Almog Cohen.
