Huddersfield Town is looking to recruit a self-motivated, committed, confident and knowledgeable individual to join the Football Department in the position of Academy Lead Foundation Phase Coach.

The role of Academy Lead Foundation Phase Coach is fundamental to the long term vision of Huddersfield Town in helping to identify and develop elite players within the Club's programme.

The role includes delivering the Foundation Phase Curriculum within Foundation (U5 – U11) Phase. The successful applicant will manage and oversee all operations of the Foundation Phase, work with the coaches within this Phase to plan, deliver and evaluate coaching sessions in accordance with the Club Philosophy, Coaching Plan and Coach Competency Framework.

The successful candidate will be required to have a good knowledge of the game through playing experience and preferably have previous experience of coaching at Academy level. Purpose of role
To lead, coach and develop FDP Players and prepare them for the Youth Development Phase (YDP) by delivery of the Academy Performance Plan (APP). Be the Lead Coach and recruiter for the FDP.

Key relationships

Internal - all Academy Staff together with Club Staff in particular the Academy Manager, Academy Coaching Team (ACT), Recruitment Department and Football in The Community.

External - Regulatory Bodies (FA Premier League, Football League, Football Association. Foundation Coaches at other Professional Football Clubs       

Overview

The Lead FDP Coach shall:

Coaching
•    This is a management position, overseeing all operations of the Foundation Phase.
•    Work with the other coaches in the ACT to develop the APP and in particular the coaching philosophy
•    Manage and work with the FP Staff to plan, deliver and evaluate every coaching session in accordance with the Club Philosophy, Coaching Plan and Coach Competency Framework.
•    Along with relevant support staff, ensure that the training programme is clearly planned with clear objectives on a Macro, Meso and Micro level.
•    Ensure that each session plan is documented prior to delivery of the coaching session, including individual and team key coaching points and learning objectives for each player using the Performance Management Application (PMA).
•    Evaluate coaching sessions, documenting achievement of learning objectives on the PMA.
•    Ensure that all individual and team learning objectives link to the Academy Coaching Programme.
•    Ensure that each coaching session is in accordance with the individual player and team requirements of the Sports Science and Medicine Departments.
•    Working with the FP Staff, plan, deliver and evaluate every coaching session using methodology specified within the Academy Coaching Philosophy.
•    Along with the FP Staff, plan, deliver and evaluate every coaching session using vocabulary detailed within the Academy Coaching Philosophy.

•    Ensure that the Performance Clock is maintained and updated daily for each player on the PMA, reflecting all training information.
•    Ensure all sessions are delivered with a compliant approach to Health and Safety.
•    Develop and maintain a positive learning environment to maximize each players learning potential in line with the requirements of the Coach Competency Framework.

Match day:
•    Manage FP Staff to ensure that all teams play in line with the Academy Coaching Philosophy.
•    Document Match Day planning and evaluation using the PMA.
•    Document individual and team key coaching points in each Match Day plan that are linked to the Academy Coaching Philosophy and individual player aims on the PMA.
•    Ensure appropriate playing opportunities for all players in the FDP including contracted and Trialist players.
•    Ensure the evaluation of the player’s performance against the player’s individual aims.
•    Make sure that FP staff emphasise individual and team learning objectives during pre-match, half-time and post-match team talks and player interaction.
•    Ensure a warm up and cool down is conducted on each Match Day according to the Academy Coaching Programme.
•    Manage FP Staff to make sure that they evaluate all matches, documenting achievement of learning objectives, or action plan for next coaching session/Match Day.
•    Ensure that the Performance Clock is maintained and updated daily for each player on the PMA, reflecting all training information.
•    Arrange games in addition to the Premier League programme as deemed necessary to ensure players receive adequate match time to support development.
•    Exhibit touchline behavior according to the Coach Competency Framework.
•    Liaise with the Academy Lead Goalkeeping Coach to report the performance and progress of each goalkeeper.

Performance Reviews:
•    Along with the FP Coaches, prepare and conduct Player Performance Reviews for each player, involving all Multi-Disciplinary Departments in the process.
•    Link Player Performance Reviews to the learning outcomes of the Academy Coaching Programme
•    Working with the Performance Analysts, provide video evidence to support each Player Performance Review.
•    All the above information to be maintained on the PMA.

Recruitment:
•    Help to identify talented young footballers, who can play in the First Team at Huddersfield Town.
•    Oversee the recruitment of players into the Foundation Phase, working in line with the Club strategy on talent identification.
•    Continually evaluate the succession plan, working with coaches within the FP and YDP.

General Duties
•    Attend Academy meetings as requested to ensure appropriate departmental communication, planning and evaluation.
•    Work with the Head of Coaching to ensure individual coach development plan is in place with the appropriate CPD programme.
•    Carry out any other reasonable duties that may arise or be assigned by the Academy Manager and/or senior management staff.
•    A minimum of 37.5 hours per week, exact hours and days to be agreed.
•    Flexibility in this role is essential, including evening and weekend work.
•    Any special events, dinners, induction seminars.
•    Annual leave is to be taken at such time as agreed by the Academy Manager.
•    To attend at least five hours of In Service Training to be provided by the Football Association each year.
•    Attend First Aid Training for Academy Coaches provided by the Football Association at least once every three years.
•    Be in possession of an up to date UEFA ‘A’ License together with an FA Youth Award.
•    undertake Continued Professional Development organised by the Club
•    Lead the management and coaching of players in the FDP in conjunction with the Academy Manager and Coach Developer.
•    Liaise closely with the YDP (12-14) to ensure the succession plan into the YDP for players in the FDP.
•    Contribute to Parents’ Evenings, YDP Meetings and maintain a relationship with players and parents in the FDP.
•    Display high standards of behavior and appearance and encourage the same from others.
•    Create a positive environment for player development.
•    Provide genuine care for each player as an individual striving to develop a rapport and relationship based on mutual trust and Club values and the Academy philosophy.
•    Provide a safe environment in which the player can learn without fear of abuse consistent with the Club’s Education and Welfare philosophies.
•    Undertake other duties as directed by the Academy Manager or the Technical Board.
