PREVIEW: SOUTHAMPTON (A) IN U21 CUP ON MONDAY

24 January 2016

Young Terriers in action on Monday 25 January

- HTAFC U21s at Southampton in Premier League Cup on Monday
- Game at St. Mary's Stadium at 7pm
- Terriers reached quarter finals last season

Huddersfield Town’s Under-21 side will play at Southampton in the Round of 16 of the 2015/16 Premier League Cup at St. Mary's Stadium on Monday.

The game will start at 7pm, with entry to the game free of charge for spectators.

Frankie Bunn's side has defeated Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough at the John Smith's Stadium in the earlier PL Cup rounds this season. Highlights of the Round of 32 win over Boro are below via HTTV!

Southampton has a Category 1 Academy within the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), meaning its Under-21 side plays its regular league fixtures in the Barclays U21 Premier League Division 1. The Saints, who defeated Chelsea at home to reach this stage, won the competition last season.

HTAFC entered the competition at the Qualifying Round 2 stage due to the Academy’s Category 2 status.

As in the PDL2, teams can play a maximum of three overage outfields and an overage goalkeeper.

The winner has to be decided on the day, so extra time and penalties will be utilised if required.

Senior Professional Development Coach Frankie Bunn’s side reached the quarter finals of the competition last year, defeating Barnsley, Everton and Charlton Athletic before losing 1-0 in the last few seconds against Reading.
