Joe Murphy has today signed a contract extension that will keep him at Huddersfield Town until the summer of 2017, with the Club having an option on a further season.

The 34 year-old goalkeeper was originally contracted to the Club until the end of the current 2015/16 season.

Born in Ireland, Joe joined Huddersfield Town in June 2014 following the expiration of his contract at Coventry City, signing a two year deal.

Before moving to West Yorkshire, Joe started his professional career at Tranmere Rovers and also played for West Bromwich Albion, Walsall, Sunderland and Scunthorpe United.

Over the course of one and a half seasons, Joe has made nine Sky Bet Championship starts for the Terriers, with a further four starts in the Emirates FA Cup and Capital One Cup.

A full international for the Republic of Ireland, Joe has now made over 520 career appearances, of which two have come in the Premier League and a massive 214 in the Championship.

Huddersfield Town’s Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“The goalkeeping situation at the Club is perfect, as we have two very good players.

“Joe is not only an excellent, experienced goalkeeper, but he is a great character as well. Before we extended his contract we spoke about my expectation for his important role on the pitch and in the dressing room.

“I am very happy that he will stay for next season.”
