Both Huddersfield Town Under-21s and Under-18s will start their respective seasons this weekend with the U18s playing Bristol City on Saturday and the U21s opening their campaign against Charlton on Sunday.

Tony Carss’ side start their Under-18 Professional Development League 2 North campaign with an away trip to Bristol City, who compete in the South side of the division.

The U18 Professional Development League 2 is split into two regional divisions, North and South. Teams play opponents in their own division twice and the other division once, before the top two teams from each league meet in the Play-Offs to determine the overall champions.

Last season was the first year Tony Carss’ side missed out on the play-off places finishing just one point short after drawing 3-3 with Coventry City on the final day of the season.

The Under-18s squad this year contains eight first year scholars to replace the players who have moved up the Academy into Frankie Bunn’s Under-21s side.

The match will kick-off at 11am on Saturday at Bristol City and you can keep up-to-date with the game via our Twitter account @htafcdotcom.

There have been a lot of changes this year to the Under-21s league ahead of the 2016/17 campaign as it has now become an Under-23s division.

The Professional Development League 2 had previously been an Under-21s division between 2012 and 2016 but the new rules mean that players are eligible for the squad if they’re born on or after 1 January 1993.

Despite it being an Under-23s league, teams can still field three overage outfield players and one outfield goalkeeper.

Similarly to the U18 PDL2 league, Frankie Bunn’s side will play all fellow northern teams both home and away, whilst also facing southern teams once (either home or away).

Frankie Bunn’s side start the season as reigning national champions at Category 2 level after they beat Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane last season. You can watch those highlights below.

They kick off their 2016/17 campaign at PPG Canalside facing PDL2 south side Charlton Athletic who finished top of the Under-21 Southern division last season.

Managed by SPD Coach Jason Euell, Charlton were beaten by Sheffield United in the semi-finals.

You can come and watch the game at PPG Canalside on the front pitch. Its £1 entry to watch the match and you will receive a team-sheet. If you can’t get to the game follow @htafcdotcom on Twitter for match updates.
