Town’s Under-21 side drew the final game of the regular Professional Development League 2 North season at Coventry City on Monday afternoon.

As one of the three overage players that are permitted in PDL games, Coventry’s 28 year-old Bulgarian Vladimir Gadzhev had given the home side an early lead at the Ricoh Arena, but Under-18 scholar Jack Boyle (pictured above) restored parity in the scoreline.

The Terriers had already won the PDL2 North title ahead of the game, but today’s results in the southern section now mean Frankie Bunn’s side will host Millwall in the Play-Off semi-final; date to be confirmed.

Bunn’s side included a second Town start for 18 year-old trialist goalkeeper George Dorrington from Manchester United, as well as an U21 debut for 17 year-old Academy midfielder Luca Colville.

Under-16 player Jordan Williams made a fifth Under-21 start at right back, but there was no Ronan Coughlan (knee) or Jacob Hanson (hamstring).

Coventry opened the scoring after just 16 minutes when Bulgarian Gadzhev, who has 25 caps for his country, sent a rocket of a shot into the top corner from 25 yards out.

The young Terriers had to stay strong in the face of more pressure, with George Thomas firing wide of target and Dorrington saving well from Sayoud, before Boyle equalised.

He picked up a corner that skipper Regan Booty pulled back to the edge of the box, with his long range drive taking a deflection on its way past Sky Blues’ goalkeeper Addai. Nevertheless, it will go down as Jack’s third goal of the U21 season in just his sixth start.

Jake Charles spurned a presentable chance to put Town ahead just before the interval before a Boyle free-kick and top scorer Rekeil Pyke both forced the home custodian into action.

At the other end, Dorrington saved from Ben Stevenson with his legs to earn a share of the spoils.

There was also a late Under-21 debut for Academy striker Cedwyn Scott.

Highlights of the game will appear on HTTV on Tuesday.
