REPORT: BARNSLEY 2-3 TOWN U18s

1 April 2016

Young Terriers move within two points of Play-Offs

- Town U18s win at Barnsley
- Sam Warde and Cedwyn Scott score
- First Under-18 goal for Olly Dyson

Town’s Under-18 side jumped up to third in the Professional Development League 2 North table with a 3-2 win at Barnsley on Friday afternoon.

Goals from Sam Warde, Cedwyn Scott and Olly Dyson secured the win in South Yorkshire and moved Tony Carss’ team within two points of Sheffield United in the second all-important end of season Play-Off spot.

The victory was the ninth in the last 12 games for the young Terriers.

Carss fielded a trialist at left back – 18 year-old Jamie Mellen from Everton – and started three Under-16 players in full back Sam Gibson, midfielder Dyson and attacker Dom Tear.

The game was goalless until the 37th minute when new Republic of Ireland Under-18 international Sam Warde fired home crisply from the edge of the box.

Barely a minute later it was 2-0, with first year striker Cedwyn Scott capping off a good move for his ninth of the season.

The Tykes responded with a goal before the interval, but a first goal at Under-18 level from midfielder Dyson before the hour restored the two goal lead.

Town played the last 25 minutes with Under-15 players Mason O’Malley and Scott High on the pitch – the latter on his Under-18 debut – and a late Barnsley goal was nothing more than a consolation.

Highlights from the game will appear on HTTV next week.

Town’s team (4-2-3-1):
Owen Brooke; Jamie Mellen (Mason O’Malley, 61), Dylan Cogill, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Sam Gibson; Alfie Raw (Scott High, 65), Sam Warde (Adam Edgar, 73); Luca Colville, Olly Dyson, Dom Tear; Cedwyn Scott
