Centre back to make transition into coaching at HTAFC

- Mark Hudson signs HTAFC contract extension
- Club Captain to make transition into coaching
- Comments from David Wagner & Stuart Webber

Huddersfield Town Captain Mark Hudson has today signed a contract extension at the Club!

The centre back, whose existing contract expired at the conclusion of the 2015/16 season, has put pen to paper on a three year contract that will see him make the transition onto the Club’s coaching staff.

Mark joined the Terriers on a two year contract from Cardiff City for a nominal undisclosed fee on 1 September 2014 and has gone onto make 81 starts for the Club in all competitions, scoring five goals.

He has been a virtual ever-present during Head Coach David Wagner’s 30 game tenure at Huddersfield Town, missing just two games through suspension.

Hudson, who is already a holder of the UEFA B coaching license, will eventually make the transition into a coaching role at the Club.

Huddersfield Town’s Head Coach David Wagner explained:

“I’m unbelievably happy that Mark Hudson will be a part of my squad for the next seasons.

“I have said before that the whole squad accepted the big changes I made when I arrived in November and Mark was a big reason for that. As Captain - and one of the biggest influences in the dressing room - he set a great example, as he understood that the changes we made will make his career longer.

“It is a great move for the Club to keep him here as a coach in the long term, but I believe he still has a big part to play on the pitch for us as we look to make the next steps in our development. Mark’s performances during my time here have been good and he is an important player in a squad that is generally young and still learning.

“He is a 100% professional and has a winning mentality; he has been a winner of the Championship just a few years ago. This is the type of character that we need in our squad.”

Huddersfield Town’s Head of Football Operations Stuart Webber added:

“Under Dean Hoyle, this Club has always had a commitment to developing good people on and off the pitch and Mark certainly fits that bill.

“Mark has been an outstanding captain since his arrival and it is fantastic news that we have secured his future to Huddersfield Town.

“In the short term David sees him as an important part of his playing squad and I am sure that Mark will make an excellent coach in future years.

“The Club will give Mark all the help and support he needs as he prepares to begin his coaching career.”
