WRIGHT MAKES WALES U21 DEBUT

31 March 2015

Town defender earns first international cap

Huddersfield Town’s Development Squad centre back Joe Wright helped Wales get the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign off to a winning start on Tuesday evening.

The 20 year-old Academy graduate, who is based in Monk Fryston and qualifies for Wales through his grandparents, made his debut for his adopted country by starting the game against Bulgaria at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Wales won the game 3-1, scoring three during the first-half. Unfortunately Joe was substituted in the 54th minute through injury and it was whilst Joe was down on the pitch that the visitors netted, albeit to no avail.

Joe’s Town teammate, Jake Charles, was also called up to the Wales squad, but had to withdraw yesterday due to a hip issue.

Nevertheless, Joe’s debut capped off a successful international break for the Terriers. Alongside Nahki Wells (Bermuda) and David Edgar (Canada), Town’s representatives were involved in five wins from five internationals.
