REECE JAMES SIGNS ON LOAN

26 March 2015

Manchester United left back joins the Terriers

Huddersfield Town has today completed the signing of Manchester United defender Reece James on an Emergency Loan until the end of the 2014/15 season.

The 21 year-old, who naturally operates at left back or as a left wing back, made eight starts for fellow Sky Bet Championship side Rotherham United in a previous loan spell earlier this season – which included 90 minutes against the Terriers in the 2-2 Boxing Day draw at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

A graduate of Manchester United’s Academy, he also made his Red Devils debut this season in the Capital One Cup during August 2014. That came on the back of a successful pre-season tour to America with the First Team, where he scored twice during a 7-0 win over LA Galaxy.

He signed a contract extension at Manchester United last month.

Reece’s arrival at Huddersfield Town comes just over a week after it was confirmed QPR loanee Jack Robinson is set for at least nine months on the sidelines due to the knee injury he sustained in the Sky Bet Championship draw at Birmingham City (click HERE for full details).

Huddersfield Town Manager Chris Powell commented:

“It’s fantastic news for the Club that we’ve been able to secure Reece’s services for the rest of the season.

“He excelled in a loan period in the Championship earlier this season and he possesses the quality that we need to cover for the unfortunate recent loss of Jack Robinson to injury. Once Jack was ruled out for the season, we’ve stepped up our search for a left back and the Board of Directors didn’t hesitate in backing me in the market.

“Reece is comfortable at left back or in a more advanced wing back role, which suits our style perfectly. It’s great that we have completed the move early in the international break too, as it will give him time to bed in with his new teammates ahead of our game at Sheffield Wednesday.”

Having started his career at Preston North End, Reece joined Manchester United in 2012. After being a virtual ever-present in United’s Under-21 side, he joined League 1 Carlisle United on loan for the start of the 2013/14 season but returned to his parent club after picking up a thigh injury in his second start for the Cumbrians.

Upon his return to fitness he captained United’s Under-21 side ahead of his pre-season tour with the First Team and subsequent loan at Rotherham United this term.

Reece will wear the number three shirt during his spell at the Club.
