As a Sky Bet Championship club, Town was one of the seeded teams and could only face an unseeded team in the northern group, with the 10am draw pairing the Terriers against the Magpies.

Notts County suffered relegation to League 2 in 2014/15 after a 21st placed finish in League 1. Subsequently the Club has appointed Dutchman Ricardo Moniz as its new Manager.

Town Academy graduate Jimmy Spencer is among the players currently in the Magpies' squad.

The two sides last met in January 2012, with the League 1 encounter finishing 2-2. Although Gary Roberts and Jordan Rhodes had given Town a two goal lead, the hosts roared back to draw the game at Meadow Lane thanks to strikes from Jeff Hughes and Lee Hughes.

The last League Cup meeting between the sides was a two-legged second round affair in the 1999/00 campaign. Town edged through on aggregate that time; Clyde Wijnhard and Marcus Stewart strikes ensured a 2-1 home win in the first leg before a 2-2 draw in the return, with Kenny Irons and Dean Gorre notching the goals.

Last season, the Terriers reached Round 2 of the competition after beating League 1 Chesterfield 5-3 in dramatic fashion after extra time, followed by a 2-0 home defeat to fellow Championship side Nottingham Forest.

Town’s best run in recent years saw them reach Round 3 in the 2013/14 campaign, with home wins over Bradford City and Charlton Athletic leading to a narrow 1-0 away defeat at the hands of then Premier League side Hull City.
