Important cup clash for Frankie Bunn’s side
Frankie Bunn’s Development Squad will host its counterpart from Derby County at PPG Canalside on Tuesday afternoon in an important cup clash.
The young Terriers could seal progression in the Final Third Development League Cup competition this week with a result against the Rams, having picked up seven points from the opening three games in the competition through wins over Mansfield Town, Rotherham United and a draw at Doncaster Rovers.
As a member of the Northern Group B, Town would progress to the semi-finals as group winner by defeating Derby on Tuesday, whereas a win for the visitors would knock the young Terriers out of the competition.
Whereas Town has a category two Academy, Derby County is category one and its Under-21 and Under-18 sides play in the Premier League.
County’s Under-21 side is managed by one-time Town loanee Lee Glover.
This competition has no restriction on the age of players, unlike the other competitions Town’s Development Squad plays in; the Professional Development League 2 and the Under-21 Premier League Cup.
Tuesday afternoon’s game kicks-off at Town’s training ground at 1pm. The game is free to watch, but supporters will be asked to make a donation towards the ‘All Together Town’ campaign, which funds flags and banners for the John Smith’s Stadium on Town match days.
