Two local youngsters win
The winners of the junior fans’ ‘Design a Flag’ competition have been announced as Solomon Marshall, aged 6 from Shepley, and George Ransom, aged 13 from Ilkley!
The competition, run by Huddersfield Town and the North Stand Loyal supporters group, was open to fans aged between four and 15 years old, who were asked to draw their flag designs by hand on an A3 or A4 sheet of white paper.
Soloman’s flag is a blue and white striped home shirt with the letters HTAFC and the words ‘Hope, Teamwork, Awesome, Family Fun and Courage’ on it, and George’s colourful design includes the Town crest and the Stadium in the background with the chants ‘I wanna be HTFC’ and ‘Ooh To Be A!’.
The boys are pictured here with their 4 x 3.5 metre flags which will be displayed on home match days.
Club Ambassador Andy Booth who judged the designs along with Dave Scholefield of the NSL said:
“All of the flag designs were great and we had a surprisingly hard time trying to pick our two favourites, but in the end it came down these two.
“The mixture of bright colours, detail and song lyrics made the two flags the winners. Congratulations to Solomon and George and a big thank you to all the children who entered!”
Dave Scholefield of the North Stand Loyal added:
“On behalf of the NSL and Mark Young of John Walton Machine Tools, who has sponsored one of the flags, we would like to thank all the junior flag competition entrants for their hard work, effort and inventiveness in their flag designs.
“It was a very difficult decision to make but eventually we decided that the designs of Solomon and George were the best in category. We look forward to seeing the flags on display in the stadium for many years to come and a big congratulations to all the entrants; the Cub is in very good hands with the young Terriers of the future.”
