BUNN PREVIEWS TUESDAY’S U21 GAME
5 January 2015
Town’s Development Squad plays its first game of 2015 on Tuesday afternoon when it takes on Charlton Athletic in the U21 Premier League Cup.
The 1pm kick-off, which will be played at Stalybridge Celtic’s Bower Fold (SK15 2RT), with admission set at £4 for adults and £2 concessions.
Frankie Bunn’s side reached the Round of 16 by defeating Barnsley and Everton on home soil, whereas visitors Charlton – managed by former striker Jason Euell – have defeated AFC Wimbledon and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Whilst the young Terriers sit atop the Professional Development League 2 North, Tuesday’s opponents are fourth in the southern section.
The winners of the game will advance to the quarter final, which has to be played within 14 days of 19 January 2015.
Senior Professional Development Coach Frankie told htafc.com:
“Our players have been chomping at the bit after a nice break over the Christmas period; they’re raring to go.
“This is a national competition against category one teams, so progression in this competition has been enjoyable. We come up against different types of players, formations and styles of play and that’s good for our development, but we’re focussed on ourselves.
“I’ve been quite pleased with the performances of late. We’ve been playing attractive football by getting the ball down and we’ve also pressed the opposition hard. The key is to get that combination right.”
One player back out on the training pitch with Bunn is first year professional Jake Charles, who has missed around four months through injury.
Frankie continued: “It’s great to see him back, as he’s a lovely lad. He’s a little bit rusty at the minute and although he’s been on the grass for a week, it might be a little time before he enters the games programme."
