WRIGHT & CHARLES IN WALES U21 SQUAD

21 August 2015

Town duo set for UEFA qualifier

- Huddersfield Town duo in Wales Under-21 squad
- Joe Wright has one cap; Jake Charles set for possible debut
- Pair currently out on loan

Huddersfield Town’s Development Squad duo Joe Wright and Jake Charles have been named in the Wales squad for an upcoming UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifying group match in Luxembourg.

The Town pair are both in Manager Geraint Williams’ 18 man squad for the game, which will take place on Friday 4 September at the Esch Sur Alzette Stadium in Luxembourg.

Both players are currently out on loan. Centre back Wright, who is 20, has played once from the bench for Sky Bet League 2 club Accrington Stanley in an opening day draw at home to Luton Town. He already has one cap for Wales at Under-21 level, when he had to be substituted through a 54th minute injury in a 3-1 home win over Bulgaria in March 2015.

Meanwhile attacker Charles (pictured above), 19, has yet to feature for Vanarama National League side Guiseley during his youth loan, but has made one appearance for Town’s Under-21 side in the 5-5 draw at QPR on Monday. He was named in the Wales U21 squad to face Bulgaria back in March 2015 alongside Wright, but had to withdraw through injury.

Wales’ Under-21 side is in group five of the UEFA qualifiers alongside Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Romania, Denmark and Armenia. The winner of the group – the sides play home and away – will qualify for the tournament in Poland, whereas the runner-up could go into a possible Play-Off depending on results.
