4 April 2015

Find out more here...

The Huddersfield Community Trust’s Education Academy is fast becoming a provider of choice for post 16-education and you could represent Huddersfield Town at Futsal whilst studying towards a BTEC Level 1, 2 or 3 or a Foundation Degree on the Futsal Scholarship.

The Futsal Scholarship is designed for talented 16 and 17 year-old footballers; both males and females who want to learn or develop new skills through the technical game of Futsal, whilst studying towards a BTEC Sports qualification.

Futsal is the world’s fastest growing indoor sport with over 96 countries entering the FIFA Futsal World Cup held in Brazil in 2008. The sport is recognised by both UEFA and FIFA with large emphasis based on the technical skill and ability in situations of high pressure and is considered by many to be football in its purest form. Players who credit Futsal as a tool that helped hone their skills include such greats as Pele, Zidane, Xavi, Messi, Iniesta and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Established in 2009 the Education Centre based at The Zone Huddersfield Community Trust provides excellent levels of high quality teaching and training within the sports, fitness and coaching sector. All courses are delivered on site by a team of highly qualified tutors and coaches in a unique environment which inspires and promotes the success of young people.

The Education Academy work in partnership with local providers, colleges and industry professionals, the courses have been developed with an emphasis on employability and will develop the academic and vocational skills needed to progress into the Sports Industry.

The available courses for this coming academic year in September 2015/16 are as follows:

• BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport & Active Leisure
• BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport
• BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport Performance and Excellence
• Foundation Degree

The Futsal and Education Scholarship is a joint venture between the Football League Trust and 72 other Football League Trust Clubs including the Education Academy at Huddersfield Town Community Trust where they are working together to provide the ultimate playing and learning experience.

The programme offers an array of exit routes, ranging from a University education (including Football League Trust's Community Football Coaching & Development Foundation Degree) to careers in the Sports and Leisure sector, both in the UK and overseas. A number of students have progressed to employment with Huddersfield Town whilst several have pursued Soccer Scholarships in the USA.

In addition to studying, the course provides the time and use of the training facilities to receive regular coaching to develop technical, tactical and physical ability of their Futsal players allowing students to represent HTAFC in the FLT Futsal League and other cup competitions at the best of their ability.

Rachael Lakey, Education Manager at the Education Academy based at The Zone Huddersfield Community Trust commented:

“After working closely with Under 16’s Coaches from our local junior football clubs, we have now confirmed a high proportion of our Scholarship for September already.

“The Education Academy have held open evenings, trials and interviews and we have seen a very high standard with our applicants, both academically and as players.

“We are now in a position to offer out open trials to any school learner who may be interested in representing Huddersfield Town as a Futsal player whilst studying towards a BTEC Sport Diploma.

“I would urge any year 11s who are interested in this specialist Scholarship to apply now.”

So why not join the Education Academy and the world’s fastest growing indoor sport Futsal?
