DEAN THANKS CARETAKER TEAM

3 September 2014

Town Chairman Hoyle praises Lillis and staff

On the day that Huddersfield Town appointed Chris Powell as its new Manager, Chairman Dean Hoyle has praised the job that Caretaker boss Mark Lillis did during his spell with the First Team.

When Mark Robins left the Club after the opening day defeat to AFC Bournemouth, Academy Manager Lillis – ably assisted by Steve Thompson, Steve Eyre, Nick Colgan and all the existing First Team technical staff – stepped into the breach.

During Mark’s time in charge, the team recorded its first four points of the 2014/15 Championship season with a win at Reading and draw at home to Charlton Athletic, whilst reaching the Second Round of the Capital One Cup.

Town’s Chairman Dean Hoyle commented:

“On the day when we look forward to the future of the team under the management of Chris Powell, it is equally as important that we all acknowledge the job that Mark Lillis and the technical staff has done during a very difficult period for the Club.

“Everyone knows that Mark Lillis a 100% ‘Huddersfield Town man’ and he didn’t hesitate to step into the Manager’s role at a moment’s notice after Mark Robins left the Club in early August.

“From that moment on Mark, Steve Thompson and Steve Eyre did a superb job of lifting the team’s spirit after that big shock and setback, instilling a real ‘Terrier spirit’ into the performances.

“Under his stewardship, the team has given performances that we could all take pride in. Whether we’ve won, drawn or lost, Mark’s Town team has shown commitment, character and no shortage of quality. Mark has shown our supporters a glimpse of what can be achieved with our squad if it is harnessed properly.

“I know he will be on hand to help Chris Powell if and when he is needed and he is a valuable, knowledgeable man to have at the Club.

“Thanks to his achievements during his playing days at the Club, Mark is already part of Huddersfield Town folklore, but it’s important that nobody forgets the excellent work he’s done when called upon as Caretaker Manager, as well as his excellent ongoing work as Head of our Academy.

“My thanks - and the thanks of everyone at the Club - go to Mark and every member of the technical staff.”
