Midfielder moves to Huddersfield until 6 December

Huddersfield Town has today secured the signing of Diego Poyet from West Ham United on a Youth Loan.

The 19 year-old midfielder joins the Terriers until 6 December inclusive and is eligible to feature in tomorrow’s Sky Bet Championship game at Fulham.

An England youth international, Diego joined Premier League West Ham United in the summer after earning the ‘Player of the Year’ title at previous club Charlton Athletic.

That accolade was all the more impressive as he only made his professional debut in January 2014, given to him in an FA Cup game at Oxford United by Chris Powell.

After 23 impressive midfield performances for Charlton, Diego turned down a new contract at the Valley and joined West Ham United on a four year contract.

He has subsequently made two Premier League appearances this term, with his first start coming away at Manchester United’s Old Trafford in late September.

Huddersfield Town Manager Chris Powell commented:

“Diego is a player I know very well from our time together at Charlton. He is a real talent and adds further quality to our midfield options.

“I have been told that Diego caught the eye of a number of clubs, including Huddersfield Town, following his performances for Charlton, but he’s been out of our reach until this opportunity became available.

“He’s made his Premier League bow for West Ham and we will give him further Championship experience. I am grateful that the Club has demonstrated a willingness to enhance the squad and move quickly to get the move done.

“Diego is a tenacious midfield player with a great range of passing; he should dovetail brilliantly with our other midfield players at the Club and fit right into the squad in terms of his personality.”

Diego will wear the number 44 shirt at Huddersfield Town.
