MARK ROBINS: CHANGES WILL BE MADE

2 May 2014

Manager hints towards personnel for Watford

Mark Robins told htafc.com that we he will try “one or two” new things when Huddersfield Town take on Watford this Saturday, 12.15.

Having secured Championship status against Yeovil on Easter Monday, Town’s Manager, who will be without injured young midfielder Phil Billing, said he will make changes for the last game of the season.

“It is our final chance to put in a good performance and enjoy playing football,” said Robins. “From our perspective we have achieved relative comfort in terms of safety and I am feeling a lot better than I did this time last season. I will try one or two new things on Saturday in terms of personnel.”

On Watford, Mark felt it was slightly unjust to say that the Hornets had underachieved this term: “I watched them on Tuesday night and it was a decent match. It is easy to look at the league and say that Watford have underachieved, but things change season by season. We got to 58 points last season and were still in danger of going down, this season we were safe on 50 points with a few games to go. It will be different next season and I don’t want to be fighting at the bottom end of the league, I want to be trying to get a promotion. We want to be as high as possible and within touching distance on the Play-Offs. It is a massive ask though, because of the differences between clubs in terms of budgets.”

Reflecting on the season as a whole, Town’s Manager saw plenty of promise but was disappointed with the form of his side in 2014.

“I am happy with certain aspects of the season, but our ability to pick up results since the turn of the year has been disappointing. There have been some decent performances, but we haven’t achieved the results. It is a results based business, but I think it is more than that because we want to pick up wins with good performances.

“At that stage in the season we wanted to push on, but I know that the players have given me everything. They didn’t go out to underperform, but sometimes it does happen and I think during the Ipswich game we were collectively very poor. Looking ahead to next season there are plenty of things to be worked on, and they will be.”

“We will recruit in the summer but that has to be done within our parameters and that means that some of the out of contract players will have to leave. We need to freshen things up, but to do that we have to make room.

“We haven’t had conversations yet and we will address that once the season has finished; I may meet with players on Monday.”

To help in his attempts to make changes in the summer, Robins urged fans to take advantage of the Club’s current low Season Card prices

“The more that we can get through the door means more money we have to spend in the transfer market. It goes hand in hand with us picking up results and putting performances in. We started off in a good vein this season and we hope to do the same next season. We will look to recruit players who will have a more sustained impact throughout the season. I want to bring in quality that will give us a real boost.”
