JAKE CHARLES RECEIVES WALES CALL-UP

23 May 2014

Attacker heading to Portugal for tournament

Huddersfield Town youngster Jake Charles has been called up to Wales’ Under-19 squad for the UEFA U19 Elite Round qualifying tournament in Portugal.

Wales Under-19 Manager Geraint Williams had named an 18 man squad for the tournament, with Town Academy graduate Jake among the 12 players named on the standby list. However, due to a number of dropouts the attacker has been called up.

The Welsh are in group seven of the round robin tournament, meaning they will play Belgium on 28 May, hosts Portugal on 30 May and Greece on 2 June. The winners of that group will progress to the UEFA Under-19 finals, which takes place in Hungary between 19 and 31 July 2014.

18 year-old Jake, who turned professional with the Club in February 2013, is yet to be capped at Under-19 level for Wales, having previously represented his country at Under-17 level and below.

He finished as top scorer for Town’s league title winning Under-18 side this season, netting 22 goals in 32 appearances. He also made two starts and six substitute appearances for the Club’s Under-21 team during 2013/14, scoring once.
