HUDDERSFIELD TOWN TO HOST NEWCASTLE IN FRIENDLY

10 May 2014

Terriers set to welcome Premier League side

Huddersfield Town can confirm that it will host Premier League side Newcastle United as part of its 2014/15 pre-season campaign.

The friendly is the first match to be announced of Town’s pre-season preparations and will be played at the John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday 5 August 2014, 7.45pm.

Tickets for the match are priced at £15 adults and £10 concessions.

Alan Pardew’s men conclude their Premier League campaign on Sunday when they visit title challengers Liverpool. United are set for a mid-table finish and go into the final game of the season placed ninth on 49 points.

Newcastle’s current squad features a number of top players, many of which could feature at this year’s World Cup. Goalkeeper Tim Krul will be hoping to be in Holland’s squad, whilst right-back Mathieu Debuchy featured regularly during France’s qualifying campaign. Midfielder Moussa Sissoko is also likely to feature for the French, whilst fellow midfielder Cheick Tiote will be hoping to represent Ivory Coast.

The Terriers and The Toon came head-to-head twice during the 2009/10 campaign. The first clash was also a pre-season friendly, which ended in defeat for Town courtesy of Kevin Nolan’s second half goal.

The second meeting was just over a month later in the Carling Cup, at St James’ Park. At one stage in the match Town were leading 3-1, however goals from Geremi, Shola Ameobi and Kevin Nolan secured a 4-3 win for Newcastle.

Further announcements regarding Huddersfield Town friendlies ahead of the 2014/15 Championship season will be made first on htafc.com.
