15 May 2014

Junior football competition happening this weekend

Huddersfield Town’s biggest ever junior football competition, the PPG Cup, will take place this weekend!

Children aged between seven and 14 will follow in the footsteps of James Vaughan, Adam Clayton and Adam Hammill by playing at the Club’s official training ground during Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday, with over 100 junior teams from across the region taking part - including Westend Lions & Tigers, Brighouse Juniors, Dalton Dynamoes, Uppermill, Lepton Highlanders, Golcar, Great Harwood Rovers (from Blackburn), Upperthong, Rastrick, Gomersal & Cleckheaton, Cumberworth, Clifton Rangers, Ossett Albion Juniors, Greetland Goldstars, Hepworth, Huddersfield YMCA, Challenge Juniors, Honley, Battyeford, Skelmanthorpe Juniors, Kirkheaton Youths, Netherton Dragons, Dewsbury Rangers, Norristhorpe Juniors and Howden Clough.

The six-a-side tournament promises to be great day out and fun for all the family, with plenty to keep players, parents and families entertained over the course of the two days on top of the exciting on the pitch action.

Face painters will be on site for the younger spectators, the ever-popular ‘Terry the Terrier’ will make an appearance, refreshment will be available from the kitchen and there are also fully licensed bar facilities available inside.

Town's 'Football in the Community' department will have its speed gun at the training ground to test your power!

Birstall-based PPG Architectural Coatings UK & Ireland, manufacturer of leading trade paint brands Johnstone’s Trade and Leyland Trade, is lending its support to the inaugural PPG Cup as part of its sponsorship of Huddersfield Town’s Canalside training facility on Leeds Road.

Johnstone’s, which has been the proud sponsor of the Football League Trophy for the last eight seasons, will be bringing the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy to PPG Canalside this weekend, giving those attending the opportunity to pose for a picture alongside the prestigious trophy.

Johnstone’s popular Paint Pot Challenge, which is designed to test footballing skills by inviting participants to kick a football into a giant inflatable Johnstone’s paint pot, will also be there on the day.

For the ultimate Huddersfield Town fan, the Johnstone’s Decorating Centre on Ringway Industrial Estate in Huddersfield, will be offering a special discount on ‘Terrier’s Blue’ emulsion for fans to show their support and paint their rooms in the club’s colours.

All players taking part in the tournaments – separate competitions on the Saturday and the Sunday - will receive a medal for taking part, with the winning team from under-9 upwards receiving a team trophy from a special Huddersfield Town guest on the day!

The under-7 and 8 age groups will play four games each in a friendly tournament, with each player will receive a participation medal.
