James Vaughan starts with a bang

August was certainly James Vaughan’s month with the striker netting eight goals in seven appearances.

The former Norwich man had made his move to the Terriers a permanent one during the summer following an impressive loan spell during the 2012/13 campaign.

Town’s first month of the season yielded four wins and a draw, which included the 5-1 demolition of newly promoted AFC Bournemouth.

Nottingham Forest (A)

Town’s 2013/14 Championship campaign got off to a bad start with defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Henri Lansbury’s tap in during the opening stages of the second half earned Billy Davies’ men a deserved 1-0 victory.

Bradford – Capital One Cup (H)

James Vaughan bagged himself a brace against Bradford to send Town through to the second round of the Capital One Cup.

The 25 year-old scored with a low shot outside the area and a powerful header from the edge of the box to earn Town a deserved victory.

James Vaughan’s first half header earned Mark Robins’ men their first Championship point of the season at home to QPR.

Vaughan notched his third goal of the season from close range after Adam Hammill and Oliver Norwood had worked an opening.

Millwall (A)

James Vaughan continued his hot streak in front of goal to earn Town their first win of the season at Millwall.

The striker scored his fourth goal in three games to succumb Millwall to their third defeat of the season.  The goal, which came after Town had passed up a number of good openings, arrived in the 57th minute from the boot of Adam Hammill and head of James Vaughan.

AFC Bournemouth (H)

James Vaughan’s hat trick helped Town earn their first home league win of the season against AFC Bournemouth.

The striker took his tally to seven for the season with a superb treble, which included a penalty. Adam Hammill and Adam Clayton scored either side of Vaughan’s hat trick; Clayton’s was the pick of the bunch, a superb 25 yard strike to seal the points.

Charlton – Capital One Cup (H)

Mark Robins’ men showed plenty of character to earn their passage into the third round of the Capital One Cup after staging a second-half comeback to see off Charlton Athletic.

Joel Lynch cancelled out Dale Stephens’ opener to send the teams in level at half-time before Marvin Sordell restored the Addicks’ lead on the hour mark.

Jonathan Hogg didn’t know too much about his first Town goal, but it was enough to draw Town level before Adam Hammill scored his second goal in a week to secure the Terriers’ passage.

Barnsley (A)

Town’s five match unbeaten run was ended at Oakwell with goals from Chris O’Grady and Marcus Pederson succumbing the Terriers to a 2-1 defeat.

James Vaughan notched his eighth goal of the season as Town tried to stage a second half comeback, but Barnsley held firm to record their first win of the season.
