Calum on the disappointing 2-0 defeat at Doncaster

Town defender Calum Woods admitted that Doncaster fully deserved their 2-0 win at the Keepmoat Stadium this afternoon after ‘winning the battle’ during the game.

“That was a bad result for us today and a poor performance from the team,” the Liverpudlian told

“Anyone can beat any other team in this League. Last week they got beaten 5-0 and we won by the same scoreline, but if you come to any game and don’t perform you will get beaten and that is exactly what happened this afternoon.

“We knew they would battle hard today and they came out on top on that front, which I’m gutted about. They definitely won the overall battle today and that’s why they came out on top.

“We started ok in the first 10 minutes and forced them back, winning corners. We couldn’t get on the end of any of them to get the first goal and then they scored soon afterwards. We never got in the game after that.”

Woods played as the right-hand centre half in a change of shape during the second 45 minutes, but it had little effect on the flow of the game as Rovers scored a goal in each half.

Calum continued: “We tried to change formation and played a back three in the second-half. It’s been a positive that we have done that to good affect this season, but today it didn’t work for us either.”

Calum and the squad soon have the chance to put today’s disappointing result tonight, with the focus turning to Wednesday night’s game at Charlton Athletic.

“Everyone is gutted, but we have to move onto the next game now. The good news is that it comes quickly; we play again at Charlton on Wednesday. It’s good that we have the chance to get over that quickly. The sooner the better on that front.

“We know Charlton will be a tough game, but we’re confident we can bounce back.”
