TOWN’S TEAM vs. BLACKPOOL

22 March 2014

Vaughan returns for 100th career start

James Vaughan returns to the starting line-up to make his 100th career start in today’s Sky Bet Championship game at Blackpool; 3pm kick-off at Bloomfield Road.

Vaughan is making his first start in seven games due to the calf injury he sustained in the home game against Nottingham Forest on 11 February.

The striker replaces Danny Ward in one of three changes to the side made by Mark Robins this afternoon, meaning he partners January recruit Nahki Wells up front from the start of the game for only a third time.

The second change comes in midfield and sees Blackpool legend Keith Southern play against the team he made 375 appearances for during a decade ahead of his move to ‘The Yorkshire Club’ in the summer of 2012. Keith replaces Oliver Norwood, who drops to the bench.

Fit-again Anthony Gerrard’s return to the team is the third change today. After missing two games because of a broken toe, the experienced Liverpudlian replaces Tommy Smith in the side.

Another player who makes a return today is Duane Holmes, the midfielder returned earlier this week from Yeovil and features on the bench.

Town’s team today includes another two former Blackpool men alongside Southern; Peter Clarke was Player of the Year at Bloomfield Road back in 2005, whereas Adam Hammill made 23 appearances on loan at today’s opponents in the 2008/09 season.
