STEAD RETURNS TO TOWN

3 March 2014

Striker back with the Terriers

Huddersfield Town striker Jon Stead has returned to Town following a loan spell with League 1 Oldham Athletic.

The striker has had plenty of playing time with the Latics and was able to provide a couple of assists, but unfortunately could not find the net himself.

Recently, Stead played 45 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to MK Dons, but was an unused sub at the weekend in a 2-2 draw with Tranmere.

Duane Holmes' unbeaten start at Yeovil continued on Saturday when he played 73 minutes in a crazy game against Reading. After taking the lead, the Glovers held on for a point with only eight men.

Holmes was sacrificed for a defender as Yeovil superbly defied the odds to hold on for a point and extend their unbeaten run to four games.

They now sit 23rd in the Championship table, two points off safety.

Left back Jake Carroll scored his first goal in English football when he finished off the rout for Bury in a 4-1 away win against Mansfield on Tuesday.

The 22 year-old was calm enough to volley the ball into the top corner from 14 yards out after the goalkeeper had failed to clear.

He also played 90 minutes on the left side of midfield on Saturday, as the Shakers fell to a 2-1 away defeat against Cheltenham.

Bury are now 16th in League 2 and sit six points above the relegation zone. They face Rochdale at home in their next fixture.

Elsewhere, Chris Atkinson was an unused substitute as Bradford lost 3-2 against Stevenage. The Bantams took the lead twice, but were undone by two wonder strikes from Stevenage’s Luke Freeman.

Bradford are now 11th in the League 1 table and face high flying Brentford away in the next game.
