KEITH IS UP FOR THE FIGHT

21 March 2014

Midfielder ready for scrap with former club

Huddersfield Town midfielder Keith Southern is ready for a battle as Town prepare to take on Blackpool this Saturday.

Southern was a superb servant for Saturday’s opponents and knows that they will be up for the scrap as they fight against relegation.

Speaking to htafc.com, Keith said: “I know Barry Ferguson well having played with him and he will have his players fired up; they will scrap for everything. They have only won once in 20 games so they need to put in a performance. That shouldn’t detract from what we need to do though, because we need a good performance and result.

“If we turn up on Saturday we have the ability to win the game, but the problem of late has been that we haven’t been performing well.

“We have struggled to follow up good results; it has been far too inconsistent,” continued the 32 year-old. “However, Saturday is certainly an opportunity to get points on the board. If we want to make the next step we have to be more consistent.”

The Seasiders made a fantastic start to the campaign beating the likes of Reading and Watford, but with less than a quarter of the season remaining sit just four places above the relegation zone.

“They made one of their best ever starts to a season and expectations probably grew because of that,” said Keith. “They are on a poor run at the moment though, and I am sure that they will be disappointed to be in a relegation fight.

“It is a big game for both teams.

“I am not too sure as to what has happened at Blackpool in terms of their collapse; a lot of the lads that I played with have moved on now. In the Championship it doesn’t matter what form a team is in though, they always give you a tough game. If we reach the high standard that we have set this season, it should be enough to win the game.”

Keith won’t be given an inch during the 90 minutes on Saturday, but he is looking forward to seeing old friends.

“It was the game that I looked out for at the start of the season and I am excited to be going back.

“I got a fantastic reception last season on the back of having a fantastic ten years at the Club, which culminated in a testimonial. I am hugely appreciative of the Blackpool fans; they were always brilliant with me and I look forward to seeing them.”
