ACADEMY CELEBRATION vs. BLACKBURN
10 March 2014
Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship match at home to Blackburn Rovers will be Huddersfield Town’s annual ‘Academy Game’.
The Roses derby will be used to showcase and highlight the work that is going on at the Club’s Academy, which is based at PPG Canalside.
As per previous years, next season’s scholars – the players who will graduate from the Under-16 group and begin their two year scholarships in the 2014/15 season – will be revealed during the half-time interval.
Some of Town’s promising younger footballers will also take centre stage during the interval, with the Under-10 and Under-14 groups showcasing their skills on the John Smith’s Stadium pitch whilst their Under-11 colleagues show Town fans how it is done from the penalty spot!
Town’s official match day magazine, Give Us An H, will also be packed with information about the Academy, with a three page feature on the massive changes that have happened behind the scenes during the last five years.
Saturday’s match is also a ‘Club Focus’ game, which means that Town’s junior club partners can purchase tickets for the 3pm kick-off against Rovers and earn cashback for their Club. As part of this scheme, club partners Clifton Rangers will form the prestigious Guard of Honour as both teams enter the field of play ahead of the referee’s whistle.
As well as the next generation of Town players, the next generation of Town fans will also be at Saturday’s game thanks to the latest ‘Terrier 7s’ presentation of the season ahead of kick-off. This initiative sees local seven year olds come to the game and get presented with a replica shirt by a member of the Town squad - click HERE for full information.
