TOWN GETS IN THE WORLD CUP SPIRIT

16 June 2014

1,000 children get involved with community team

Over 1,000 children across Kirklees have already taken part in a World Cup Day - and the tournament has only just got under way!

Huddersfield Town Community Trust is the registered community charity responsible for the community sports and education activity for Huddersfield Town. Its ‘World Cup’ initiative began last week in local primary schools and will continue throughout the duration of the World Cup.

Children are encouraged to wear the team colours of the country there are representing and take part in a variety of different engaging and fun activities. Through the programme the initiative is set to engage with more than 4,000 children across Kirklees.

Rob Day, Huddersfield Town Community Trust Manager, explained:

“We have been preparing for the start of the FIFA World Cup for many months now and devising an initiative that has been so well received by schools is exciting. We use the power of sport daily to inspire young people but the start of the biggest sporting competition has created a fantastic buzz in the work we are currently delivering.”

One of the first schools to take part in the initiative was Shepley First School and Year One teacher Miss Jackson added:

“We had a very enjoyable event! The children have had lots of fun and learned new skills - not just football skills.”

It is not too late to get involved. Contact Huddersfield Town Community Trust through football@thezone.uk.com or call 01484 484189 for more information.
