Jon Stead’s late winner against Leeds United in the first West Yorkshire Derby of the season meant that Huddersfield Town ended October on a high.
The previous three matches in the month hadn’t gone Town’s way. A draw at Middlesbrough was followed by successive defeats at home to Watford and away to Leicester respectively.
However, Stead’s shot on the turn 13 minutes from time was enough to settle an enthralling derby.
Middlesbrough (A)

James Vaughan took his tally to eleven for the season as the Terriers earned a point at Middlesbrough.
The striker was first to react when Jason Steele parried Oscar Gobern’s powerful effort, to tap home from three yards.
Vaughan’s opener was against the run of play and Middlesbrough deserved to be level when youngster Ben Gibson headed home Grant Leadbitter’s corner.

Danny Ward’s first goal of the season wasn’t enough to continue Town’s unbeaten home run in the league, as Watford succumbed them to a 2-1 defeat.
The winger climbed highest to give the Terriers a 17th minute lead, but they were quickly pegged back when Fernando Forestieri converted from the edge of the area.
The play was open and end to end and only a mistake from Alex Smithies was the difference between the sides. The stopper was unable to handle Lewis McGugan’s free-kick on the stroke of half-time and Daniel Pudil was quickest to react and slot home.

Leicester City (A)
Saturday 19 October 2013
Town’s failure to win at Leicester in the league since 1954 continued with a 2-1 defeat.
First half goals from Jamie Vardy and an own goal from Anthony Gerrard succumbed Town to its second successive defeat.
The introduction of Duane Holmes and Sean Scannell lifted Town and it was the latter who had a big hand in the goal, which Paul Konchesky got the final touch on. The Terriers went in search of an equaliser and it looked like they might grab one before James Vaughan was shown Town’s first red card of the season.

Leeds United (H)
Saturday 26 October 2013
Jonathan Stead picked the perfect time to open his goal scoring account since re-joining the Terriers with the winner in the West Yorkshire derby.
The tall striker netted with just ten minutes of the game left to settle a pulsating derby.
United went in front with just a minute of the game played through Matt Smith, but Town responded in the tenth via Danny Ward. A Tom Lees own goal and a Dexter Blackstock debut header made the game 2-2 before Stead popped up with the winner to end Town’s winless streak.
