Resounding 7-1 victory in pre-season friendly

Huddersfield Town’s Under-18 squad enjoyed its second pre-season friendly ahead of the new campaign on the pitches at PPG Canalside this afternoon.

The young Terriers hosted a side from club partner Kirklees College, defeating them 7-1 thanks to brace from striker Ronan Coughlan and further goals from Rekeil Pyke, Jack Boyle, Jack Senior, Adam Porritt and Danny Kane.

Professional Development Coach Tony Carss commented:

“Things have gone really well so far. We’d played against a physically strong team in Brighouse Town on Friday night – one that had success last season – and although it’s always a tough game for us, we competed well. We passed the ball excellently and some of the goals were very good.

“Today we had to try and set the tempo to keep the momentum going against different opposition and we created lots of chances. Some of the finishing was very good, but some of it was rusty too.

“It’s important to keep making good decisions when you get ahead in a game. We moved the ball well again, but there is still a lot to work on. We’ll do that during the week ahead of what will be a very tough game against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

“The players had summer programmes and have come back very fit. We’re constantly talking about passing and moving, making good decisions and awareness on the pitch. We want to produce players who can play at Championship level at the least. To do that, you have to be better than good on the ball regardless of what position you play.

“We had eight players move up to the Under-21 group at the end of the season, which is fantastic for the Club, and that means we have a lot of first year scholars in the side. We’re working on their football skills whilst they build a physical presence as well.
