WARD & ATKINSON #GROW4JOE

13 February 2014

Town duo support Tranmere’s Joe Thompson

Town players Danny Ward and Chris Atkinson will grow their hair for the remainder of the 2013/14 season as part of the national #growforjoe campaign.

The Town duo will not get their hair cut for the rest of the current season to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK, the charity that benefits from #growforjoe.

#growforjoe was setup after Tranmere Rovers midfielder Joe Thompson was diagnosed with nodular sclerosing Hodgkin lymphoma, a rare form of cancer, in November 2013. He has been out of action since that point and is currently undergoing a six month course of chemotherapy.

Danny and Chris have also provided a Huddersfield Town shirt, which has been signed by the whole Town squad and will be auctioned off towards the cause.

Chris, who is currently on loan at Bradford City, played alongside Joe during his six month loan spell at Tranmere Rovers at the start of the current season.

Danny told htafc.com:

“Chris knows Joe personally and when he told me about his condition and I learned more, I felt like I wanted to get involved.

“Joe’s case shows that cancer can affect anyone, regardless of age or fitness. I’m sure that it came as a real shock to everyone he knows when he was diagnosed and I wish him all the best in his recovery.

“Hopefully Chris and I can help to raise money for Cancer Research UK and raise awareness and support for Joe along the way.”
