GREAT START FOR DUANE & JAKE
25 February 2014
Duane Holmes and Jake Carroll put in match winning performances on their debuts as both Yeovil and Bury secured vital wins.
Holmes went straight into Gary Johnson’s starting line-up for the match against Doncaster and played on the right of midfield.
His touch and control in the second half draw a foul from a Doncaster defender in the box, which resulted in a priceless penalty being awarded. James Hayter stuck it away to earn the Glovers three points.
Holmes will be hoping for another chance to impress when Yeovil travel to Reading this Saturday.
It was also a good start for summer signing Jake Carroll on loan at Bury; he put in an equally impressive performance to help them to a 1-0 win away at AFC Wimbledon.
Experienced striker Jon Stead got another 90 minutes under his belt at Oldham and helped the Latics earn a 1-0 win against Gillingham in League 1.
Stead came close on the break, but a last ditch tackle from Leon Legge thwarted the on loan Town man.
Stead will be hoping for another start on Tuesday night when Oldham host MK Dons.
Young striker Paul Mullin was on the wrong end of a 4-2 score line as Vauxhall Motors lost out to Telford. The striker played a full 90 minutes, but failed to get on the score sheet as Motors saw two players sent off.
Chris Atkinson came on in the 65th minute to help Bradford secure a 1-0 victory over MK Dons. Atkinson came on to sure up the midfield in place of striker Aaron McLean. Atkinson has another chance to impress on Saturday against Stevenage.
